When to hire a consultant instead of an integrator
Not every network problem needs a consultant. These are the situations where one is the right call.
You need senior depth, not a body count
Large integrators staff projects with whoever is on the bench. As an independent consultant, the engineer who scopes your work is the engineer who does it, with escalation-level troubleshooting experience from inside Cisco TAC, where cases arrived only after the first tier had already failed to solve them.
Your infrastructure is past end-of-life
Unpatched CVEs on EOL platforms turn into audit findings under PCI-DSS, SOX, and FFIEC. Refresh and migration work is a defined, schedulable project, the kind that fits a fixed-scope consulting engagement far better than an open-ended headcount request.
Changes keep causing outages

Common questions
What does a network consultant actually do?
Three things, usually: assess what you have, design what you need, and implement the change without breaking production. In practice that means topology and configuration review, high- and low-level design documents, firewall and routing changes, migration runbooks, cutover execution inside maintenance windows, and documentation your own team can operate from afterward.
How much does network consulting cost?
It depends on scope and engagement length. An assessment priced as a fixed deliverable is very different from a 12-month embedded contract billed hourly. Send a short description of your environment and timeline and you'll get a rate and scope back, not a discovery-call funnel.
How long does a network assessment take?
Typically one to three weeks. Week one is discovery and topology validation, week two is configuration and resiliency analysis, and the engagement closes with a written findings report and a remediation roadmap ranked by risk and effort.
What is the difference between C2C and W2 contracting?
Corp-to-Corp (C2C) means your company contracts my company. No employment relationship, no benefits load, no headcount approval, and a defined end date. W2 means being placed on a payroll as a temporary employee. My engagements are C2C.
Do you work remotely or on-site?
Both. Design, automation, assessment, and most implementation work is done remotely. On-site is available in Dallas-Fort Worth for physical installs, data center work, and cutovers where hands-on presence matters.
Can you work alongside our existing IT team or MSP?
Yes. That's the most common arrangement. Consulting work here is typically sequenced with in-house network, security, and compliance teams rather than replacing them, and every engagement ends with handoff documentation so your team owns what was built.
What certifications do you hold?
